Goalkeeping can be a mysterious art to some. Players and coaches alike who are not familiar with the position often have questions, which is why SGA staff coach Jeff Benjamin decided to create JBGoalkeeping.com. Since its launch in 2000, JBGoalkeeping.com has become recognized world-wide for providing useful, understandable and comprehensive information for goalkeepers and their coaches.
“Early in my goalkeeper coaching career, I encountered coaches and players with a real need for more information. Many didn't even know where to start. JB Goalkeeping was developed to fill that need,” says Benjamin. He took advantage of the multimedia capability of the internet, providing not just text and pictures but video clips, interactive models and a blog. All facets of goalkeeping are covered in depth, from basic technique to advanced saves, tactics, psychology, equipment and sample training sessions.
“I wrote down notes and copied the summary on each page to try and enforce in my mind your tactics. I photocopied my notes and kept them in my bedside cabinet, and each morning before a game I would read them with a coffee. After a while I was really starting to enjoy playing in goal, even making a great save in one game that got a mention in our local newspaper.”
Coach Benjamin used his experience of training hundreds of goalkeepers to highlight key coaching points in training and common mistakes, all in an easy to understand format. JB Goalkeeping has helped keepers from all over the world, from Scotland to South Africa and Malaysia to the USA and Canada.
